Why do hackers want to access your WordPress Website?

Why do hackers want to access your WordPress Website?

Whilst not intended to create fear, there are lots of reasons why hackers are interested in your WordPress Website:

1 ) Obtain personal data / information about your users – so name, email, usernames and passwords & other confidential information. which they can later use or sell.

2) To exploit payment methods – if you store card details online. Using Stripe or PayPal are secure payment options

3) To insert malicious coding that redirects your search traffic to a loop of paid ads which they get paid for impressions. Every time someone sites an ad even for millisecond counts.

4) To deface the website – to add the “tag” or name “you’ve been hacked by XYZ” significance factor.

5) Hold website owners ransom – some claim you have to pay them to get your site back  (never do this!)

There are so many things we can do to limit the risks of these type of things happening. Backing up and updating your WordPress website, keeping up to date with security amongst other things.
