How not to lose your WordPress website:

QUESTION From Client:
“My WordPress website needs a revamp but I am terrified I am going to break it.  Is there something I can do to save it or make sure I don’t lose it all. So I can start making changes”

WordPress is definitely something that can be learnt and it is relatively user friendly once you’ve familiarised yourself with it. It’s like anything really. I tend to encourage my lovelies to look at all tech as just a tool to deliver your message. Much like your area of expertise, or anything you’ve needed to learn, to drive, to bake, to create, it’s all a learning process.

I’ve specialised in WordPress for the last 14 years and have clients from age 16 through to 84 ❤whilst age is just a number, what I am getting at, is that if you’re willing, and can find the right teacher or resource to walk you through it, I am confident that anyone who wants to learn it is able.

When my clients first come to me, they’re usually really scared they’re going to break it, unsure what to do with it or struggling to get it to do what they want.

One of the easier ways to alleviate some of that stress is to learn to do a backup of your own site.

You can contact your hosting company to get them to initiate automatic backups for you. Or you can install a plugin to give you the functionality right inside the WordPress Dashboard.

There are lots and lots of backup plugins available. For example, UpdraftPlus or WPBackup.

I use a plugin called All In One Migration, it allows you to export your entire site, the database and all of the moving parts of your site into a single file.

It does require you to have plenty of space on your hosting, and if you get over a certain file size you will need to upgrade to get the unlimited uploads extension, most websites for small scale businesses just starting out, don’t run into trouble with it. And most developers who use it will have access to those premium upgrades. If our clients get stuck.

It’s an amazing plugin to implement and I recommend it to all my clients and students.
