My absolute favourite WordPress LMS plugin is called LearnDash and it’s designed to allow you to create courses and memberships. It’s unlimited . So there’s no limitation to how many users, how many courses etc, it’s solely dependent on the capacity of your hosting package. I personally have 9 courses and my member on there, and I’m adding a heap more in the next few weeks as per my student requests.
In terms of holding your course content, I wouldn’t recommend storing your videos etc on your own website. You’re better off having those on an unlisted Youtube account (free) or I pay for Vimeo Pro. These sites are designed to deliver video content.
Keeping in mind that each person who visits your site has to download the content if you have lots of students accessing your site, It will eat into your bandwidth and the overall performance of your website.
I’ve helped hundreds of non-techies get started and personally run all of my courses & membership directly as a part of my WordPress site so it’s all in one place and super easy and convenient both for me and my students.
