Below is a snippet of a training I did, explaining the 3 needed components to get start with WordPress.
Where to Start With WordPress
As a WordPress Website owner you’ll only need three things to get started with your WordPress Adventure.
In order to setup the self-hosted version of WordPress from WordPress.org you’re going to need the following:
- Domain name – Also known as a URL or Website Address –
These can be picked up fairly cheaply, usually between 10-30 depending on your provider.
This is the humanly readable link your audience will type into the search to display your website.
For example – www.ncdacademy.com.au is my domain. - Reliable WordPress Hosting –
Is an online storage space you rent from a hosting company in order to store your WordPress websites and it’s moving parts online.
This is where the relevant moving parts of your website are stored. Including your pictures, pages, the coding that makes up your website, your website database that is inbuilt into WordPress, your website related email address and all of the files related to keeping your website online.
It’s worth mentioning that you can purchase your domain from the same company as you buy your website hosting from or you can purchase it separately, and have it pointed to your hosting company. Either option is fine. Most people keep them together for ease of management but it’s not a requirement.

- Installing WordPress:
All Reliable WordPress Website Hosting companies will have an easy way to install WordPress through an online Wizard, with step by step instruction. So may come with WordPress already installed.
Depending on your hosting provider the process will differ, however you’ll generally fill in a form, and the free software will be setup.
You’ll choose a username and password and then once WordPress is installed, you’ll get a link to login to the WordPress Dashboard.
The standard login link will have your website address followed by /wp-admin and you’ll then see a login form to enter your username and password. You’ll access WordPress from this location each time.
